Libya's presidential council has dismissed the influential central bank governor, Sadiq al-Kabir, and appointed Mohamed Abdul Salam al-Shukri as his replacement. This decision, taken amid the ongoing political turmoil in the oil-rich country, is seen as a move that could further exacerbate tensions between the rival factions controlling different regions of Libya. The council's action has been criticized as illegitimate by the eastern parliament and the Supreme Council of State, who assert that appointments of sovereign body heads should be their prerogative.
