According to a report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on June 20, 2024, over a hundred countries globally are researching the issuance of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), with Taiwan's central bank also revealing its preliminary structure, planning three main aspects: implementing a dual-layer issuance system, initially offering CBDCs without interest but retaining interest-bearing function, and classifying wallets to accommodate digital disparities while maintaining the issuance of physical cash for specific demographic preferences and habits. The central bank noted that CBDCs will be distributed through intermediaries like banks and non-banking institutions, who will provide users with CBDC wallets, interfaces, and additional value-added services.
