In 2024, the median compensation for CEOs at S&P 500 companies surged to $17.1 million, a 9.7% increase from the previous year, while median employee pay saw a meager rise of just 1.7%, reaching $85,419. Despite a 23% increase in the S&P 500 and a 9% rise in company profits, significant disparities in pay persist, with some workers facing challenges in covering their living expenses. Industry experts highlighted that the growing reliance on stock awards for top earners is exacerbating the pay gap, emphasizing that it could take the average worker nearly 192 years to earn what their CEO makes in a single year.
