Taiwan's garbage output continues to rise, prompting Greenpeace to call for strengthened waste reduction policies. While Taipei and New Taipei have successfully implemented trash bag fees, most counties and cities are facing challenges in promoting the practice due to the difficulty of changing long-standing habits and beliefs among the public. Implementation of bag fees has led to significant reductions in waste volume and increased recycling rates. However, lack of supporting measures and concerns about inconvenience for residents have hindered broader adoption of this initiative in other regions.
