Chaos at Mount Fuji Festival: Chinese Tourists Bringing Luggage, Foreigners Without Reservations Barred

Reported 12 months ago

As the Mount Fuji climbing season begins, Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan introduced new regulations to combat tourist pollution, limiting daily hikers, collecting tolls, and installing gates. However, on the first day, issues arose with foreign climbers unaware of the need to pre-book and Chinese tourists climbing in shorts and sandals, some even dragging luggage up the mountain. Despite efforts to prevent overcrowding and ensure safety, some tourists were blocked at the entrance due to language barriers and lack of reservations, highlighting the challenges faced by authorities in managing the influx of visitors.
