On June 19, 2024, the William Jones Cup International Basketball Invitational will take place in July. The Chinese Taipei Basketball Association recruited a cheerleading squad through a selection process, where 20 finalists showcased their skills in a competition held at the Changhua County Council. Nine winners will have the opportunity to perform and support the Chinese team during the Jones Cup games. Participants came from diverse backgrounds such as current baseball or basketball cheerleaders, teachers, dance instructors, and even a self-proclaimed world unicycling champion hoping to display her talent. The selection event was organized by the Changhua County Government and co-hosted by the Chinese Taipei Basketball Association and the Changhua County Sports Promotion Association. The top three winners will receive cash prizes, with additional awards for best style and costume design. Despite the requirement for the squad to disband after the event, there is hope that the cheerleaders will participate in future county activities thanks to local government sponsorship.
