After the defeat of the Kuomintang in the 2024 presidential election, the focus has shifted to the 2026 local county magistrate elections. Chen Boyang from the Democratic Progressive Party has been targeting KMT's Fu Kun-chi with public opinion battles, aiming to challenge him for the county magistrate position in 2 years. Chen clarified that his current focus is on serving Hualien's needs for central government-related services and disaster relief, rather than setting his sights on the 2026 election. He emphasized the importance of addressing national security, legislative duties, disaster relief efforts, and the welfare of disadvantaged groups and youth in Hualien as priorities.
