Former President Chen Shui-bian was accused of money laundering in a case involving ex-101 Chairman Chen Min-xun buying officials in Taipei. Due to health reasons, the Taipei District Court halted the trial in May 2015, and recently ruled that the statute of limitations for prosecuting Chen Shui-bian for money laundering had expired on September 25, 2024. The case dated back to 2004 when Chen Min-xun bought a $1 million Taiwan Bank note in the name of Chen Qin-wen and transferred the money to Switzerland through various accounts. Chen Shui-bian and the couple received the money and allegedly pressured to appoint Chen Min-xun to various positions. Despite Chen Shui-bian's absence in court due to illness, the court deemed the statute of limitations completed and pronounced him not guilty without further debate.
