Former President Chen Shui-bian has escaped another case related to buying officials, with the Taipei District Court ruling that the prosecution's statute of limitations for money laundering had expired on September 25, 16 years after the alleged crime, hence acquitting Chen. This is the second case in which Chen has been 'saved.' Despite being involved in corruption with the state affairs fund, changes in the law led to his acquittal in July 2022. Several other cases involving Chen are still pending, including embezzlement and fraud charges.
