Chen Wen-Cheng Incident 43rd Anniversary Commemorated by NTU; Urges Quick Declassification of Political Archives

Reported 12 months ago

On the 43rd anniversary of the Chen Wen-Cheng incident, Taiwan University student associations, the Chen Wen-Cheng Memorial Foundation, and graduate associations held a commemorative event urging for the truth to be revealed by declassifying political archives. The incident remains unsolved since 1981 when Chen, a statistician from Carnegie Mellon University in the US, was found dead on NTU campus after being detained by authorities. The event included moments of silence, speeches, and performances to honor Chen and others who resisted state violence, emphasizing the importance of transitional justice and preserving Taiwan's history for the younger generation.
