Chen Xuesheng Challenges 'Offshore Islands Development Act' to include Chinese Investments, Dares Anyone to Recall Him: Handling Matters Not About Pessimism

Reported 12 months ago

On July 2, 2024, KMT legislators Chen Xuesheng and Chen Yujen proposed an amendment to the 'Offshore Islands Development Act,' aiming to allow Chinese companies to participate in major government-sponsored construction projects, requiring technical expertise and labor to be imported from China and bypassing cross-strait regulations. This move was met with criticism from DPP legislator Wang Ding-yu. Chen Xuesheng responded by accusing the DPP of misinterpretation and asked if the DPP could solve the issues in the offshore islands. He challenged the recall motion against him, stating he has no objections. Chen emphasized the importance of resolving labor and material shortages in Matsu and urged for empathy and constructive problem-solving rather than negativity, highlighting the urgency to assist in tackling the island's issues.
