On July 7, 2024, Taoyuan City Mayor and resigned Chairman of the Mainland Affairs Council's Straits Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-tsang, was suspected of involvement in a corruption and bribery case. The Taoyuan District Court granted bail of NT$5 million on July 6, with the Taoyuan District Prosecutor's Office appealing immediately. Minister of Justice Cheng Ming-hwa expressed today that the case is being handled by the Taoyuan District Prosecutor's Office, urging prosecutors to conduct a detailed investigation in accordance with the law. Cheng Wen-tsang, who has already resigned as Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, is suspected of corruption and bribery.
