Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsang, accused of involvement in a land development corruption case, was previously released on bail with NT$5 million, but the Taoyuan Prosecutor's Office successfully appealed it. The High Court revoked the bail decision and sent it back to the lower court for a review, with a new detention hearing scheduled for today. The DPP Clean Government Committee unanimously agreed that if Cheng is detained, he will be suspended from his duties for three years; if found guilty in the first trial, he will be removed from office, but if acquitted, the suspension will be lifted. The committee stressed the need for higher standards for higher-ranking public officials.
