On July 6, 2024, former Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-ts'an, also current Chair of the Straits Exchange Foundation, was detained on bribery charges related to the Hua Ya Development case. Despite receiving bail of 5 million NTD, City Councilor Lin T'o expressed concerns about Cheng possibly being linked to various land scandals in Taoyuan, including the Hua Ya Development case and others across the region. Lin T'o highlighted the close ties between Cheng and individuals involved in land transactions and criticized the current restrictions on Cheng as Chair, calling it a major disgrace and a significant shock to the political scene in Taoyuan and Taiwan as a whole.
