Former Taoyuan Mayor and Chairperson of the Mainland Affairs Council Zheng Wen-tsang was suspected of receiving bribes in the development of the Hwa Ya Science Park during his mayorship and was granted bail of 5 million NTD by the Taoyuan District Court on the 6th. The prosecution disagreed and appealed, and the High Court revoked the bail on the 8th, sending the case back to the Taoyuan District Court for further ruling. The court mentioned that although Zheng denied the bribery allegations, the suspicions against him were significant. Regarding the money laundering charges, the prosecutor's explanation was deemed insufficient, leading to the rejection of those charges. The court also highlighted the lack of evidence in other allegations and eventually allowed Zheng to post bail of 12 million NTD with restrictions on residence, departure, and contact with certain individuals.
