Former Taoyuan Mayor and Strait Exchange Foundation Chairman Cheng Wen-tsang is suspected of involvement in corruption cases and was taken away for late-night interrogation by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office. During a detention hearing, he was granted bail with a bond of 5 million Taiwanese dollars and restrictions on residence and travel. Legislator Huang Kuo-chang called for a thorough investigation into Cheng's alleged misconduct during his mayorship in Taoyuan, urging the prosecutors to present an explanation to the public. Additionally, he emphasized that the Democratic Progressive Party Chairperson and President, Lai Ching-te, should take a serious stance and demonstrate a clear attitude towards the situation. Huang Kuo-chang also dismissed speculations of internal party conflicts, stressing the importance of addressing and handling the longstanding corruption issues to provide Taiwan's society with a fundamental explanation.
