Cheng Wen-tsang Suspected of Embezzling 5 Million for Bail and Smiles as He Leaves Court

Reported about 1 year ago

Former Taoyuan Mayor and current Chairman of the Taiwan Strait Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-tsang, was suspected of violating the Anti-Corruption Act for allegedly accepting bribes in the performance of his duty. The Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office applied for his detention, but the Taoyuan District Court granted bail at the amount of 5 million New Taiwan Dollars and imposed restrictions. Cheng left court with a smile, accompanied by his lawyer, without making any comments. The court found no suspicion of money laundering but considered the bribery and leakage of secrets accusations to be serious. The prosecution immediately appealed against the court's decision.
