Cheng Wen-tsang, Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, is suspected of being involved in a corruption case during his tenure as the Mayor of Taoyuan, reportedly related to the 'Modification of the Linkou Special District Plan - Expansion Plan for Industrial Zone V'. The Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office conducted a search on the 5th and arrested Cheng for suspected bribery in relation to his official duties. Eric Chu, Mayor of Taoyuan, expressed cooperation with the prosecutors and hopes for a swift resolution. Chu further pointed out that Cheng's directive for landowners to redevelop land instead of using segment acquisition, as well as the slow progress of the industrial zone project, are uncommon practices under scrutiny.
