Chevron Corporation has agreed to pay $550 million to the Richmond City Council over the next ten years, settling a conflict that would have led to a ballot for a new tax on its Richmond refinery. The settlement allows the city to withdraw the proposed tax measure, following its claim for the company to contribute fairly to the community it has operated in for more than a century.
