Chicago Council to Vote on City Infrastructure Debt for O’Hare and Office Rehabilitation

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is seeking approval to issue several billion dollars in bonds to modernize O’Hare International Airport and convert two office buildings into affordable apartments. The city council’s finance committee has voted on proposals adding up to over $4 billion, requiring full city council approval. Plans include issuing up to $3 billion for O’Hare improvements, $1 billion for short-term spending, and $400 million to refinance the water system. Additionally, the council approved bond sales for multi-family housing to increase affordable housing availability in the central business district.
