Chicago crime leads China's Cofco to consider relocating to the suburbs

Reported 6 months ago

Cofco International Ltd., the trading arm of China’s largest food company, is relocating its downtown Chicago office to the suburbs, specifically Oak Brook, due to high costs and safety concerns, including persistent crime in the city's central business district. This move, affecting a small office of around 40 people, is seen as another setback for a city facing corporate departures and rising vacancy rates, with crime incidents still high despite a recent decrease. The relocation is expected to take place by the end of the third quarter or the last three months of the year.
