Chief of General Staff to Attend Legislative Yuan for Inquiry; Minister Gu Li-xiong: Can Decline to Answer Questions Related to National Security

Reported about 1 year ago

On June 25, 2024, Minister of National Defense, Gu Li-xiong, stated that the Chief of General Staff can attend the Legislative Yuan for inquiries, but can choose not to answer questions involving national security secrets. This comes ahead of the forthcoming briefing session tomorrow, where former Chief of General Staff, Li Xi-ming, expressed concerns about the Chief of General Staff's attendance at the Legislative Yuan, while Minister Gu emphasized that based on Judicial Yuan Interpretation No. 461, the Chief of General Staff can opt not to respond to questions on national security matters. This marks the Chief of General Staff's return to the Legislative Yuan after 26 years since the last visit by a Chief of General Staff in 1998.
