A single mother in Pingtung County entrusted her 8-month-old infant to caregiver Su Yuting, who proceeded to harshly shake the baby 14 times by flipping him upside down due to her impatience with his crying, causing severe injuries including bleeding in the brain, hydrocephalus, and permanent damage to the eye and right brain nerves. Initially sentenced to 9 years and 6 months in prison for intentional severe child abuse, the High Court upheld the verdict on June 25, after which Su Yuting's appeal was rejected. The incident occurred in December 2022, following which the baby was hospitalized and Su Yuting's violent behavior was uncovered through damaged surveillance footage, leading to the prosecution and conviction.
