Chile's state mining giant Codelco, one of the largest copper producers globally, fell 8.6% behind its May production target, producing 103,100 metric tons instead of the planned 112,800 tons. This setback highlights the challenge of increasing output at a 25-year low. Codelco's total copper production in the first five months of the year was 484,500 tons, 6.1% off its target. The company is striving to improve production after a poor 2023 performance and a recent accident at one of its sites, making leadership changes and planning expansions to boost its output.
