In the early hours of June 20th, 2024, in Santiago, Chile, a serious train collision occurred when a freight train collided at high speed with another train conducting a speed test. The impact caused the carriages to pile up and resulted in at least 2 deaths and 9 injuries, including 4 Chinese nationals. The collision, possibly due to high-speed driving, led to a harrowing scene with carriages stacked on top of each other. The investigation is focusing on signal system failure as a possible cause, and the Chilean government is urged to review railway safety measures given the country's history of train accidents.
