On July 3, 2024, China Airlines flight BR396 from Vietnam to Taipei encountered an accident where the Boeing 777 aircraft collided with and broke runway lights at Tan Son Nhat Airport in Vietnam. Following the incident, China Airlines clarified that the plane accidentally touched a light pole with its left wing during ground movement, requiring repairs for safety. The airline apologized for the delay and arranged for a replacement aircraft to bring passengers from Ho Chi Minh City back to Taipei, providing accommodation and meals during the wait.
