China Coast Guard Takes a Tough Stance on Detention; Legislators Express Concerns

Reported 12 months ago

Reporting on the continuous monitoring of the China Coast Guard ship detaining a Taiwanese fishing vessel, in a departure from past incidents where they normally use 'broadcast drive-away' methods, this time the vessel Da Jin Man No. 88 was aggressively detained. This move is seen as a deliberate escalation by the Mainland Chinese government targeting President Lai Ching-te's remark that 'the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China are not subordinate to each other'. The incident has raised tensions between the two sides, with critics questioning if cross-strait issues are heating up as China continues to test Taiwan's boundaries in various maritime regions.
