China Consumer Prices and Factory Deflation

Reported 7 months ago

China's consumer prices increased less than expected in May while factory prices continued to decline for the 20th consecutive month, raising concerns about weak demand. The consumer price index rose by 0.3% compared to a year earlier, falling slightly from April, with core inflation at 0.6%. The producer price index dropped 1.4% year-over-year in May, following a 2.5% decline in April. Analysts suggest that more government intervention may be needed to stimulate domestic demand given the persisting deflationary pressure.
