China is urging its companies to purchase domestically produced AI chips instead of those from Nvidia, amid efforts to bolster its semiconductor industry and to prepare for potential US sanctions. This guidance has been issued by regulators and aims to enhance the market share of local chipmakers like Huawei and Cambricon. Although Beijing wants to encourage local tech firms to develop top-tier AI systems, there remains some tolerance for foreign chips if necessary for competition.
