On June 9, 2024, during the Dragon Boat Festival, northern China entered a period of intense heat with temperatures reaching near 40°C and even exceeding 40°C in some areas. The China Meteorological Administration issued yellow high-temperature warnings for multiple regions, including Hebei, Henan, and Shandong where temperatures are expected to remain at 40°C. This heatwave is expected to peak on the Dragon Boat Festival and last until the 13th, with some areas potentially breaking historical records. The early onset of summer heat in China has been attributed to the development of a continental high-pressure ridge, affecting areas like Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Henan, Shandong, and parts of Inner Mongolia and the northeast region significantly.
