China is helping Nepal search for oil in Dailekh as part of a six-month drilling campaign financed by Beijing, aiming to reduce Nepal's dependence on India for fossil fuels and enhance its energy security. The project, a collaboration dating back to 2007, is seen as an attempt by Nepal to balance its foreign policy between China and India. Nepal's past energy crises and geopolitical tensions with India have prompted efforts to diversify oil dependencies through agreements with China, potentially deepening ties with Beijing.
