China has announced new export controls on antimony products starting September 15, citing national security concerns. Antimony, primarily used as a flame retardant and in military applications, has seen China accounting for nearly half of the global production. The new restrictions require exporters to obtain licenses for certain dual-use items and technologies, and despite no volume limits, these could lead to a significant drop in exports, similar to previous restrictions on other minerals. With increasing demand and tightened supply, antimony prices have surged to record highs.
