According to a report released by a UN agency, China has submitted over 38,000 technical patent applications related to generative artificial intelligence (AI) from 2014 to 2023, surpassing the United States, which ranked second with 6,276 applications. Key applicants in this field include companies like ByteDance, Alibaba, and Microsoft, an investor in OpenAI. The report highlights the significant increase in generative AI patent applications, with over 50,000 filed from 2014 to 2023, suggesting a growing interest in this technology since its widespread adoption in late 2022. While China leads in the quantity of patents submitted, the quality and market value of these patents remain uncertain in the early stages of technological development.
