China May Impose Temporary Tariffs on European Pork and Criticizes EU Overstating Investigations on Chinese Electric Cars

Reported 8 months ago

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce indicated in a press conference on June 20 that it may impose tariffs on EU pork as soon as 'preliminary results' are available from the anti-dumping investigation, without waiting for the investigation to conclude. China strongly criticized the EU for demanding excessive information in their anti-subsidy investigation on Chinese electric cars, hinting at potential probing into Chinese electric car business secrets. This move has raised concerns among Chinese car manufacturers, especially regarding battery technology. The EU Commission recently announced a temporary tariff of up to 48% on Chinese electric cars, to which China vows to defend its businesses' legal rights. The Ministry has initiated an anti-dumping investigation on European pork and may implement retaliatory tariffs sooner, given the possibility of relevant measures being taken even before the investigation's full duration.
