China is aiming to triple its output of artificial intelligence chips by 2026 to reduce reliance on Nvidia. Huawei is set to begin operations at a new AI chip plant by the end of this year, with two additional facilities planned for 2026. The increased production could surpass the capacity of Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), which is also expanding its 7nm chip manufacturing. This move comes as part of China's efforts to enhance its domestic chip capabilities amid security concerns associated with foreign technologies.
