The IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2024 announced by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) revealed that China has risen to 14th place among 67 countries, climbing 7 spots from 2023. China excelled in domestic economy but lagged in international trade rankings and continues to face challenges in the global economic slowdown. Meanwhile, Hong Kong improved in various competitiveness indicators and regained the fifth position globally. Recommendations for China include stabilizing employment, deepening reform and opening up, resolving local government debt risks, and promoting innovation for high-quality development.
