China's state media CCTV's account, 'Yuyuan Tan Tian', released footage on June 19, 2024, showing an incident where a Filipino boat was sandwiched by two Chinese vessels. The account claimed that the Chinese coast guard acted with professionalism, boarding the Filipino boat for inspection. The footage reveals the Chinese coast guard patrol boat and a Filipino supply boat nearing a collision. Following this, a grey Filipino speedboat was chased and cornered by Chinese speedboats and fishing vessels, leading to Chinese coast guard personnel boarding the Filipino boat. The Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated that the enforcement measures taken by the Chinese coast guard were professional and restrained, aimed at stopping the illegal transport of goods by the Filipino vessel, denying direct action against Filipino personnel. Lin further accused the Philippines of trying to occupy Reed Bank long-term by illegally transporting construction materials and even weapons and ammunition disguised as humanitarian supplies. The Philippines military reported on the 18th that the Filipino supply ship was deliberately rammed by the Chinese coast guard, resulting in serious injuries to Filipino sailors. This incident escalated tensions between the two countries in the disputed area.
