China has witnessed a decrease in power generation from fossil fuels while the output from solar and hydro sources has significantly increased, suggesting that the world's largest polluter may have already peaked its emissions well ahead of its own deadline. This shift is attributed to a 4.3% decline in thermal power generation and a 39% increase in hydroelectric power following heavy rains. Despite positive trends, challenges such as grid constraints and industry profitability remain crucial for sustaining this progress.
