China's LNG Boom Threatened by Growing Variety of Alternative Fuels

Reported 10 months ago

Cracks have appeared in the optimistic outlook for liquefied natural gas (LNG) demand in China as the country is veering towards alternative fuel sources, including domestic production and pipeline supplies from Russia, which offer cheaper options compared to LNG shipments. The shift in energy policies and the expansion of renewable energy sources are challenging the dominance of LNG in China's energy mix, impacting global majors investing in LNG supply. China's LNG imports are expected to see a lower growth rate this year compared to previous years due to the increasing competition from alternative fuels and changing government support.
