China's LNG Imports Hit Five-Year Low Amid Weak Demand

Reported about 14 hours ago

China's liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports plummeted to a five-year low last month due to weak demand and competitive European prices. With imports at 4.5 million tons, China fell behind Japan as the largest LNG importer for the second consecutive month. Contributing factors included a mild winter, sufficient storage, and low industrial demand. Some Chinese companies have been reselling spot cargoes to capture better prices abroad, particularly in Europe, following new tariffs on U.S. LNG.
