China's New Maritime Enforcement Regulations Effective 15th, Concerns from Foreign Affairs as Commercial and Fishing Vessels May Face Threats

Reported 8 months ago

Starting from the 15th, China will enforce the new 'Maritime Enforcement Regulations' based on the 2021 Coast Guard Law, allowing Chinese coast guard to inspect and detain foreign vessels and individuals suspected of violating entry and exit regulations in their claimed maritime areas. The Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed concerns about increased regional tensions, potential threats to commercial and fishing vessels' safety, and condemned China for not following international laws and unilaterally implementing these measures, impacting regional peace and stability. Coast Guard Administration and related agencies will ensure the safety of foreign vessels and individuals passing through Taiwan's jurisdictional waters and collaborate with regional allies to address potential impacts, emphasizing the maintenance of regional stability and rule-based international order.
