China is facing significant challenges in establishing a domestic automotive chip supply chain, with over 90% of its needs currently met by foreign manufacturers. The demand for automotive semiconductors has surged alongside the rapid growth of electric vehicle (EV) production, which increased by 37.5% year-on-year. Despite government initiatives aiming to boost domestic sourcing of chips, the country remains heavily reliant on imports, particularly for advanced chips critical to smart and self-driving vehicles. As geopolitical tensions escalate, the urgency for self-sufficiency in automotive semiconductors has intensified.
