China's Youth Unemployment Rate Drops to 14.2% in May for Two Consecutive Months

China's National Bureau of Statistics announced on June 19th that the unemployment rate for non-students in urban areas aged 16 to 24 was 14.2% in May, a 0.5% decrease from April, marking a second consecutive monthly decline and the lowest since January when the statistics bureau began publishing the youth unemployment rate excluding students. The data also showed that the unemployment rate for non-students aged 25-29 was 6.6% in May, down 0.5% from the previous month, while the rate for non-students aged 30-59 remained at 4%. Despite efforts to promote employment, challenges and structural contradictions persist in China's job market.
