China has imposed sanctions on several units of Lockheed Martin and three executives due to arms deals with Taiwan, an island China claims as its own territory. The banned entities include Lockheed Martin Missile System Integration Lab, Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories, and Lockheed Martin Ventures. The sanctions are seen as symbolic since U.S.-China military cooperation has been suspended since the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, and China has been developing its domestic aircraft industry to reduce reliance on foreign technology.
