On July 2nd, 2024, a Taiwanese fishing boat 'Da Jin Man 88' was seized by the Chinese coast guard near Kinmen, leading to an standoff between the two sides. Despite Taiwan Coast Guard's efforts to rescue the boat, it was taken to a port in Fujian by the Chinese authorities. The incident raised questions as to why this specific boat was targeted out of around 50 in the area. The Taiwanese boat owner expressed confusion over the incident, stating that there was nothing unusual before the boat was seized.
