On the evening of June 21, 2024, China conducted a 'joint combat readiness patrol' near Taiwan, with the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense reporting 41 aircraft and 7 ships detected trespassing Taiwan's airspace and waters, with one aircraft coming as close as 31 nautical miles from Taiwan's coast at Goose Island, prompting high alert and a response by Taiwanese military aircraft, ships, and missile defense systems. The Chinese military activity included fighter jets, transport planes, drones, and warships entering Taiwan's surrounding areas. The Taiwanese military closely monitored and responded to the situation.
