China Sends Giant Pandas to the US After 21 Years, 'Yun Chuan' and 'Xin Bao' Head to California

Reported about 1 year ago

Female panda 'Xin Bao' and male panda 'Yun Chuan' departed from China to San Diego Zoo in California on June 26, 2024, as China's President Xi Jinping hinted at sending two giant pandas to the US following his meeting with President Biden in November last year in San Francisco. This marks the first time in 21 years that giant pandas have entered the US, with San Diego Zoo being the first US institution to conduct panda research with China since 1994. After a 3-month adaptation period, the public debut date of the pandas will be announced by the zoo.
