Research suggests that China should increase tariffs on big cars to 25%.

Reported 5 months ago

A government-affiliated auto research body expert, Liu Bin from the China Automotive Technology & Research Center, suggested in an interview with China's Global Times newspaper that China should increase import tariffs on large gasoline-powered cars to 25%, in line with WTO rules, to counter higher U.S. auto import duties and potential additional duties to enter the European Union. This adjustment aims to balance domestic and international markets, promote green development, and would impact primarily German carmakers exporting SUVs and sedans to China. The move is seen as a way to support the green transition and differs from protectionist measures observed in other regions.
