Chinese actor Hu Ge is set to visit Taiwan after six years, attending a youth dialogue event at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park on June 12. Mayor Zheng Wen-Can was rumored to have been actively involved in facilitating Hu Ge's visit to Taiwan, promoting cross-strait exchanges, but the SEF Chairman's office denied involvement, stating that all Chinese applications to visit Taiwan are reviewed by the Mainland Affairs Council and relevant agencies. Hu Ge's previous visit in 2018 sparked controversy when a director's speech led to accusations of advocating Taiwan independence, causing an uproar among Chinese celebrities. Despite rumors of Mayor Zheng's involvement, the SEF expressed support for smooth cultural exchanges between both sides.
