Chinese Ambassador to France, Lu Shaye, known for his provocative statements, declared at a seminar marking the 60th anniversary of Sino-French relations that Taiwan's current situation of separation dates back to the 1940s internal conflicts in China. He stated that Beijing has the authority to expel the 'treasonous regime' in Taiwan and take back governance of the island, emphasizing that while China prefers a peaceful reunification, it is prepared to use non-peaceful means if necessary. Lu's remarks have sparked international controversy, with Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserting that Taiwan has never been ruled by the People's Republic of China and is not part of it.
